"To succeed in family and thrive in worship for the glory of God and the healing of the nations"

Established by world-renowned evangelist Mattie Montgomery and his wife Candice, The Altar Fellowship, a spirit-filled church in beautiful Johnson City, Tennessee, exists as both a refuge for the weary to come rest in God’s presence, and a training ground for the passionate to be sharpened and launched into the glory of their calling.

At The Altar Fellowship, our mission is to build a community of passionate people, captivated by the beauty of Jesus, and alive to make Him known in all things. As we work hard to impact our nation and our world, we recognize that we cannot have all God designed for us if we do not have community. To that end, at The Altar Fellowship, our mandate is simple: To succeed in family, and to thrive in worship. If we can do these two things well, everything else will follow.

We are a non-denominational, spirit-filled church that believes each person has a unique purpose, perspective, and power that can be brought to bear to glorify Jesus and to advance His Kingdom. At The Altar, we are committed to helping you discover that power, and to walk in all the righteousness, peace, and joy Christ died for you to have.
CORE VALUES

These seven principles are at the core of who we are as a church. For a more in-depth look at each one of them you can watch Pastor Mattie's sermon series CORE VALUES
LOVE
1 Corinthians 13:2
“We believe that love is the engine that drives the Gospel. We are people who have been loved wildly, so it is our joy to love wildly as we engage the world around us. While fear seems to be devastating our generation, we cling tightly to the knowledge that ‘Perfect love casts out fear.’ So, we choose to love, and we expect to see its power prevail every time.”

ACTION
James 2:17
“We believe that faith without works is dead. The Gospel is, by nature, provocative--not affording us the luxury of a passive response. So, we say yes to the call of Christ to advance courageously upward and outward, putting our faith into action without compromise.”

INSTRUCTION
2 Timothy 3:16-17
“We believe that it is our honor and calling to help teach, equip, and inspire believers in their walk with Christ. We work diligently to provide relevant biblical truth and access to divine mysteries that will ensure that those in our community become ‘thoroughly equipped for every good work.’"

HONOR
1 Peter 2:17
“We believe it is a sacred privilege to be counted among God’s people. We recognize that God is glorified by the way we honor those he has put into our lives. So, whether it is by giving well-deserved “double honor” to those who oversee the Church (1 Tim. 5:17), giving honor to the governing authorities of our land (Romans 13:1), or by honoring all men (1 Peter 2:17), we are committed to conducting ourselves with great honor both in our daily affairs, and in our posture toward the Church as God’s institution in the earth. ”

INTIMACY
James 4:8
“We believe that the precious blood of Christ has made a way for us to draw near to God. We believe that nearness to God is not only something we look forward to, but that we may ‘approach God with freedom and confidence’ (Eph. 3:12) today. So we say, ‘yes’ to the invitation to seek His face, and we remain committed daily to pursuing an intimate connection with our God and Father.”

UNITY
John 17:21
“We believe that if Christians will not love each other, we disqualify ourselves from loving the world. We call believers to cross the lines that separate us by generation, race, denomination, or tradition, and learn to celebrate the diversity of expression in the Kingdom. We believe that ALL who receive Christ have become children of God (John 1:12), and we embrace our many brothers and sisters around the world.”

PEACE
Luke 2:14
“We believe that peace is the inheritance of all believers. Just as the angels announced on the eve of the incarnation, “Peace on earth and good will toward men,”(Luke 2:14), we too proclaim the peace and good will of God demonstrated and established in Christ Jesus. In contrast to a culture that seems to be constantly at war, we believe that our battles belong to the Lord, and that the Lord never loses. So we trust Him with our fears and uncertainties, and we rest in the peace He died to give us.”

What makes us UNIQUE?

We realize that every person’s “Thank you” to God looks different, so we encourage and protect freedom in the church every time we gather to worship. You may often see people dancing or shouting to the Lord.
Our children are one of our highest priorities at The Altar, so we make sure to include them into each worship service. While we do have a kid’s church, we do not dismiss them to the kid’s building until after our time of worship is over.
The name of God (Yahweh) is recorded in Scripture over 6,800 times. As a point of honor, you will often hear His name spoken or shared in the context of prayer, worship, or teaching.
At The Altar, we want to know and be known by the people in our community. Our pastoral leadership often emphasizes the need for us to connect deeply and consistently with those in the church. We value relationship over performance. Here at The Altar, you will find that character and connectedness will open more doors for you than any talent ever could.
